Colony Free Multi-Effect Plugin Released by 13x Audio
13x Audio has released Colony, a versatile free multi-effect plugin for macOS, Windows, and Linux. The software bundles six distinct processing modules into a unified honeycomb interface driven by a single macro dial. Producers can grab the installer directly from the developer without creating an account or registering a license key.
Six Processing Cells in One Interface
Colony organizes its sound-shaping tools into six interconnected modules dubbed Cells. These include Drive for tube saturation, Space for algorithmic reverb, Pump for rhythmic sidechain ducking, Width for stereo imaging, Color for lo-fi tape and vinyl textures, and Motion for filter sweeps and modulation.
Each Cell can be independently toggled, adjusted, or bypassed. The plugin also features integrated loudness matching and an A/B audition switch to prevent loudness bias when tweaking patches on drum busses, synth leads, or master groups.
Macro Control via the Energy Knob
The core workflow revolves around the central Energy knob. Instead of automating half a dozen parameters individually, turning the Energy dial sweeps all active Cells across their assigned minimum and maximum boundaries. This macro architecture lets you dial in subtle tape warmth at low settings or aggressive parallel crush at higher values with one movement.
Key features include:
- Six processing modules: Drive, Space, Pump, Width, Color, and Motion
- Central Energy macro with individual parameter range scaling
- Built-in level matching and Hear Original comparison modes
- Native support for macOS, Windows, and Linux
- Available in VST3, AU, and standalone formats
- Zero account creation, newsletter gating, or copy protection required
